A Tier List Ranking the Best Cornerbacks in Madden 25

Sep-26-2024 PST

Today, we’re diving into the highly competitive cornerback position in Madden 25 Ultimate Team. Whether building a dominant defense or looking to improve your secondary, having top-tier corners is essential for success. In this article, we'll rank and evaluate some of the best cornerbacks in the game based on their stats, traits, and overall utility on the field.

Before we jump into the ranking, it’s important to note that we’re only covering the cornerbacks currently available. Still, if any new Team of the Week (TOTW) cards are revealed, we’ll include them in future updates.

Let’s start by taking a glance at the existing tier list. After carefully assessing the current crop of cornerbacks, it’s time to move everyone down a notch. Why? Today, we’re introducing some new entries that deserve to sit comfortably in the S-tier. These new additions have changed the landscape of the position and deserve special attention.

F-Tier: Starting at the Bottom

Tyreek Stevenson - 81 OVR, Team of the Week

Unfortunately, the 81 overall Tyreek Stevenson is just not good enough to be a competitive option. At 6'0" with 83 speed and 86 acceleration, he offers average physical attributes but lacks the elite coverage skills needed to excel. With 80 Zone coverage and subpar Man and Press stats, this card simply isn’t reliable. He kicks off the list in the F-tier.

Julius Brents - 84 OVR

Julius Brents is an interesting option thanks to his size of 6'3", combined with 88 speed and acceleration. While these physical traits are desirable, his coverage abilities fall short, with only 82 Press, and no real standout Man or Zone coverage. Given his size and speed, he’s narrowly a D-tier player but could have easily found himself in F if not for his height.

D-Tier: Solid But Lacking Something Special

Shawn Murphy-Bunting - 84 OVR

Shawn Murphy-Bunting is another player who lands in the D-tier. He stands at 6'0" with 85 speed and 86 acceleration. While these physical attributes are solid, his coverage skills (84 Man, 75 Zone) leave much to be desired, especially considering the importance of Zone coverage in Madden 25's meta. He could have been higher on this list had his stats been reversed (higher Zone coverage and lower Man).

C-Tier: Serviceable Options

Clark Phillips III - 85 OVR

Clark Phillips III comes in at C-tier, offering a balanced mix of physical stats and solid coverage. With 85 speed, 87 acceleration, and 87 agility, his physical traits are sufficient for most schemes. He excels in Man coverage (87) but lacks top-tier Zone (81), which limits his versatility. Standing at 5'10", his size is also a bit of a drawback compared to taller corners.

A-Tier: The Almost Elite

Darius Slay - AKA Big Play Slay, 87 OVR

Darius Slay is an iconic name in Madden, and his card lives up to the reputation. Standing at 6'0" with 87 speed, 86 acceleration, and excellent agility and change of direction, his physical stats are top-notch. He boasts 85 Zone coverage, 84 Man, and 85 Press, all while having the Play Ball trait set to aggressive, making him a ball-hawk in your secondary. He also has access to key abilities like Deep Zone KO or Pick Artist for 1 AP. However, given the fierce competition in today’s cornerback pool, Slay lands in the A-tier.

S-Tier: The Cream of the Crop

Night Train Lane - 88 OVR

Night Train Lane is one of the most feared cornerbacks in Madden 25, and his card lives up to the legacy. Standing at 6'1" with 88 speed, 84 acceleration, and 88 change of direction, his physical stats alone make him a contender for the S-tier. His 85 Man and Zone coverage, combined with 84 Press, create an all-around balanced defender. Adding to that, Night Train has the Big Hitter trait, which is rare for a cornerback, making him a dual-threat against the pass and run. With Play Ball set to aggressive and access to Pick Artist for 1 AP, there’s no doubt he belongs at the top of the S-tier.

Nate Wiggins - 88 OVR

Nate Wiggins is another phenomenal cornerback, and at 6'2", he combines height, speed (88), acceleration (88), and elite coverage skills. With 87 Man, 88 Zone, and 89 Press, Wiggins excels in all areas. His Play Ball trait is also set to aggressive, which makes him a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks. The only slight drawback is the lack of significant abilities, but given his raw stats, he more than makes up for it. Wiggins easily claims a spot in the S-tier.

Teron Arnold - 88 OVR

Teron Arnold is one of the most balanced cornerbacks in the game. With 88 speed, 88 acceleration, and 86 change of direction, his physical stats mirror those of top-tier players. He excels in Man coverage (88) but has a slightly lower Zone (83), which can be boosted to 85 with strategy items. Arnold also has the Play Ball trait set to balanced, and with access to Pick Artist for 1 AP, he is a well-rounded cornerback who deserves to be in the S-tier.

Joshua Williams - 88 OVR

Joshua Williams may not be out yet, but based on leaks, he looks like another S-tier player. With 88 speed and excellent coverage skills, he’s expected to get Medium Route KO, Short Route KO, and Pick Artist abilities. These traits make him a strong candidate for one of the top spots in the S-tier, especially if Pick Artist becomes his base ability.

Christian Gonzalez - 88 OVR

Christian Gonzalez, the Gauntlet reward, stands out with his 6'2" frame and elite physical stats: 88 speed, 88 acceleration, and great coverage across the board. He was one of the first corners to get Pick Artist as an ability, making him a valuable asset for any defense. However, his Play Ball trait is set to balanced rather than aggressive, which might cause some hesitation. Despite this, Gonzalez’s versatility and ability to fit into any scheme keep him in the S-tier.

Joey Porter Jr. - 89 OVR

Finally, we have Joey Porter Jr., who takes the crown as the best cornerback in Madden 25. Standing at 6'2", he boasts 88 speed, 89 acceleration, and 89 change of direction, all while maintaining 90 Man and 91 Press coverage, making him an elite shutdown corner. Porter also has access to Pick Artist, making him a must-have in your secondary. His overall skill set, physical traits, and ability to fit into any scheme make him the top pick for the S-tier.

Conclusion

The cornerback position in Madden 25 is filled with top-tier talent, and today’s new additions have shaken up the rankings. Joey Porter Jr. stands tall as the best in the game, while Night Train Lane, Nate Wiggins, and others follow closely behind in the S-tier. Whether you’re building a Madden 25 coins budget squad or an all-star lineup, these corners should be on your radar.
